World of Steam is a series of video programmes, filmed and edited by Roy Laverick, a highly-travelled English enthusiast. The programmes feature steam locomotives from many parts of the world,  in most cases performing the tasks for which they were built. Some of the material is over 20 years old, and thus depicts highly evocative scenes that have now disappeared forever.

Wherever possible the coverage is of timetabled, public service trains, rather than "specials", and thus truly captures the atmosphere of the diverse locations visited.

World of Steam sets out to place steam trains in the context of the communities that they served, and has thereby created a lasting record of the spell cast by the steam locomotive.
